Strategies of Social Repair: Research, Listening, Bridge-Building

Partners for Historical Justice (LLC) assists institutions and communities seeking to understand their own histories and redress legacies of historical injustice. Our team specializes in careful, rigorous historical research and in convening civil and productive dialogues across lines of difference. Our expertise includes unpacking and documenting histories of enslavement, dispossession, and racial disparity. We engage all parties in honest and respectful processes of inquiry and truth-telling.  Our work helps redress long-term consequences of harm and loss that, at times, stretch across generations.

Our listening sessions help all interlocutors recognize and honor one another’s humanity. We help nurture lasting frameworks for restorative justice, bringing to bear the healing powers of art, memorials, storytelling, and education in the interest of rebuilding vibrant and resilient communities.

Our Organization

As a collaborative consulting firm based in Washington DC, we aid our clients in researching historical injustice, reaching out to diverse stakeholders, and building resilient communities. We bring particular expertise in historical and genealogical research, tracing and contacting descendants, and facilitating productive dialogue about history and its complex legacies.
